Prevention / 72 hours

The following preventive measures should be taken within 72 hours after sexualized violence:
  • Prevention of HIV infection:
A person who has been subjected to sexualized violence should take steps to prevent HIV infection if there was anal, oral or vaginal penetration during the incident, or in the presence of a suspicion that such actions were taken.  What you should do: Contact the National Center for Infectious Diseases (Avan, 2 Acharyan Street, phone number: 010610820), where post-exposure prophylaxis will be provided after taking the passport data and providing guarantees of confidentiality. Medication should be started no later than within 72 hours after the incident.
  • Prevention of pregnancy
Acquire and take a contraceptive pill after consulting a gynecologist. The drug helps to prevent pregnancy if it is taken within 72 hours after the incident. The drug is sold in pharmacies without a prescription, but taking into account its effect on the body, a consultation with a specialist is needed.
  • Preservation of evidence
After the incident of sexualized violence, there may be evidence that will need to be preserved if the person is unable to contact law enforcement authorities at the time but does not rule out such intent in the future. It is important to preserve the clothing the person was wearing at the time of the incident, photograph and preserve any marks on the body, substances (semen, etc.), and any other evidence of sexualized violence.
